My first trip to Cuba was in February 2001. I spent a month exploring the island.

I was asked to give a presentation to the photography and journalism students at the University of Havana.  I became friends with teachers in the journalism department and they invited me to return with students of my own. In November I ran my first workshop.

Since then I have visited the island on more than 20 occasions, having established many lasting friendships. I try to run a workshop at least twice a year during Spring Break (March/April) and the Winter Holidays (December).
